Executing setups from virtual CD with Virtual CD TS as of Windows 2012

Using Virtual CD TS on Windows 2012 or higher may cause problems when trying to execute a setup.

After executing a setup from virtual CD you cannot run it any further as the setup cannot be found anymore.

This problem pertains to so-called session relative drives, such as virtual drives from Virtual CD TS, but also mapped drives (the latter may be connected during the setup within the correct user context).

Setups are flagged as administrative program, i.e. the file is executed automatically "as Administrator". In this case the setup has no access to session relative drives as they are available only in the normal user context.

Workarounds:

  • Use a test server with the Virtual CD Client (see here when experiencing problems).
  • Copy the content of the virtual CD to a local folder and run the setup from there (if the setups allows such a installation). For accessing data during running the program you can use the virtual CD again.
  • Alternatively yon can start the CD Center "as administrator". Inserting a virtual CD will work only if the local administrator is added to the profile settings -> permissions. With Virtual CD NMS you have to install the Virtual CD NMS Management on the RDS host and connect it to the NMS server to do so.

Hints:

  • Old setups which are not flagged as administrative program can be installed from virtual CD without this problem.
  • This problem does not pertain to the local user Administrator at all (see above).
