Side-by-side error messages after the installation as of Virtual CD v8

THis error may occur in the system event protocol only, but also on starting Virtual CD.

This problem can be fixed through the installation of Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86).

If there is an older version of this package installed which cannot be deinstalled, you can remove it with the help of this knowledgebase article from Microsoft.

Virtual CD does not automatically install this package because Microsoft Installer MSI 3.1 is required for this installation. This is only automatically included with Windows Vista. Windows XP only has the Microsoft Installer MSI version 3.0. If you try to install this package, it results in an abort. The version 3.1 can only then be subsequently installed with an optional update. For this reason Microsoft Installer MSI 3.1 is not a system requirement for the installation of Virtual CD.

In contrast to previous versions of Virtual CD the MFC DLLs for Virtual CD v8 and higher can be found in the program directory. If you experience this problem they are obviously not correctly used. The "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package" installs these DLLs into the Windows system directory.

Please note that this problem may also pertain to Virtual CD NMS!

One customer reported he had to reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package and to install the updates for both distributions using Windows Update, too.
